Restoration Project examples
Tauroggener Straße, Berlin, 2001 The site is located near Schloss Charlottenburg, Berlin. The complex, built around 1910, consists of 5 and 6 storey buildings facing Tauroggenerstrasse and two inner courtyards. O'Neill Consulting provided full architectural and interior desing services to the refurbishment project now nearing completion. The original complex was planned in response to the deman of the times with the larger, s-called 'representative', or prestigious dwelling units to the street. Those looking on to the quite, leafy inner courtyards are reversing this perception. However, the tighter planning and smallness of the inner units are problems which this project successfully addresses. The solution is to combine pairs of apartments to create units in excess of 100 sqm. which can have dual aspect to more than one courtyard as well as generously scaled interior spaces as shown in the 'before and after' plans above.
