Historic Buildings, Project example
Restoration of Markt 6 / Muehlenstrasse 26, Mettmann 1999 The project consisted of managing the restoration process from start to finish including the architectural design in adapting part of the historic core of Mettmann to modern use as office, retail and residential space, obtaining all the necessary approvals and ensuring that the financial and tax advantages of historic building conservation were maximised. The historic core of Mettmann of the strongly defined market place where slate clad 'Fachwerk' buildings in the Bergischland tradition encircle the church of Lambertus. The 17th century houses were built against the original churchyard wall which can now be seen in the restored basement levels. Section A above shows how the encircling houses step down from the elevated church, often having entrances at three different floor levels .
